Venga, Vera!

I normally visit Vera on a Saturday when the market is on. So last Tuesday evening, I decided to visit the shops (normally hidden behind the market stalls when I go). But I was thwarted again - this time by the annual carnival! Literally hundreds of floats and some marvellously mad costumes - lashings of drag, false eyelashes in pink, green and gold - you get the picture.

I must say, it brought a little tear to my eye. Only last September Vera was hit by probably the most serious flood in 50 years. Some 23 people were killed - washed away or drowned - and scores of people lost all they had as houses and businesses were wiped out. How great it was to see the valiente Verans out in force, defiantly enjoying themselves as spring makes its first tentative steps.
